Prof. Giulio Rastelli is professor in medicinal chemistry and head of the Molecular Modeling & Drug Design laboratory (www.mmddlab.unimore.it) of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy. He studied chemistry at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and obtained his PhD in medicinal chemistry in 1993. He has been research fellow at the University of California San Francisco in 1994 and short-term visiting scientist at Kosan Biosciences Inc (USA) from 2000 to 2006. His research interests focus on computational design of drug candidates and the implementation of new drug design methodologies. He collaborates with several academic and private institutions for the discovery of small-molecule inhibitors of relevant drug targets, with a special focus on cancer and polypharmacology. His group is also developing new computational tools for virtual screening based on the integration of docking, molecular dynamics, and free energy-based scoring functions.
